ABOUT SURFSIDE

Daphne Vaughan is the owner and principal of Surfside Environmental Planning Inc. since 2011. With almost two decades of experience, Daphne prides herself on her professionalism and practical expertise, as well as getting things done as thoroughly and efficiently as possible.

Ms. Vaughan is a Long Island native and graduate of Long Island University's Southampton College with a B.S. in Marine Science/ Biology, and SUNY Stony Brook with a Master in Professional Studies in Waste Management. She wrote her thesis on "The Effectiveness of Various Onsite Alternative Septic Systems in Areas with Shallow Groundwater Tables and the Need for Their Implementation on Long Island".

Experiences

Ms. Vaughan spent three autumn seasons as a Fisheries Observer on the Alaskan crab boats in the Bering Sea, similar to the famed Discovery Channel show "The Deadliest Catch". As the only woman and regulatory agent on board the boat, Ms. Vaughan was able to accomplish her work and still be one of the guys. Oftentimes a frightening adventure, Daphne will tell you that being on a boat in the Bering Sea is far less scary than crawling through brush and briars full of ticks on Long Island!!!

After braving the Bearing Sea for three seasons, Ms.Vaughan worked as a senior Environmental Analyst for the Town of Southampton's Environment Division for nearly seven and a half years. While working for the towns Environment Division Daphne gained experience with land planning / management from the municipal perspective. She utilized that experience to help clients to propose projects that will satisfy both municipal regulations and clients visions.

Ms.Vaughan knows that her near two decades of experience gives her a balanced understanding in many aspects of land planning.
